Introduction to Reciprocating Compressor Analysis – Level I

Description

In this Introduction to Reciprocating Compressor Analysis course, learn the fundamentals of reciprocating compressors and how to collect data for performance and mechanical integrity checks. This course is intended for maintenance technicians and engineers who want an introductory course in reciprocating compressor analysis using pressure, vibration and ultrasound measurements.

Certification Exam: Exam is included in the cost of the course. 50 questions, 2-hour time limit, closed book, passing score is 70% correct 

Course Objectives

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • Become familiar with basic maintenance actions for reciprocating compressors
  • Be introduced to the terminology, parts, and basic principles of compressors
  • Understand thermodynamic fundamentals and calculations used for analysis
  • Recognize instrumentation used for data collection including pressure, ultrasonic, vibration, temperature, and shaft position
  • Basic interpretation of pressure, ultrasound, vibration, temperature, and crank angle data
  • Understand the application of basic FFT signature analysis
  • Understand common faults analyzed in reciprocating compressors
  • Learn how to determine compressor performance and horsepower using pressure, temperature and machine geometry
  • Receive an introduction to reporting of results using industry software
